New Patient Roadmap

What to Expect When Starting Care
Starting psychiatric care can feel intimidating. We’ve designed a simple, transparent process so you know what to expect—before, during, and after your first appointment.

STEP 2
Insurance or Self-Pay Options
Balanced Path Psychiatry accepts select insurance plans. Coverage and benefits vary, so we encourage patients to review accepted insurers in advance.

Self-pay options are available for those who prefer greater flexibility, privacy, or whose insurance is not accepted. If you’re considering out-of-pocket care, we’re happy to discuss options and pricing with you directly.

STEP 3
Complete Brief Intake Forms
Prior to your first appointment, you’ll complete a small number of intake forms. These help us understand your current concerns, history, and goals—without unnecessary or invasive questions.

We aim to keep paperwork minimal and meaningful.

STEP 4
Initial Psychiatric Evaluation
Your first visit is a collaborative conversation, not an interrogation.

We’ll review your symptoms, experiences, and what you hope to change or understand better. You are never required to disclose painful details to be believed or supported.

Together, we’ll begin exploring options that align with your values and comfort level.

STEP 5
Treatment Planning & Informed Consent
If medication is considered, Andrew will walk through:
-
Why a medication may help
-
Potential benefits and risks
-
Common and uncommon side effects
-
Alternatives and non-pharmacological options
Every decision is made with your informed consent. Nothing is rushed.

STEP 6
Ongoing Care & Follow-Ups
Follow-up appointments focus on how things are actually going—what’s helping, what isn’t, and what adjustments may be needed.

Treatment plans evolve as you do. The goal is sustainable improvement, not indefinite medication use unless it’s truly helpful.
